The Medical Director, CGAT will be responsible for analyzing industry trends coupled with clinical product and therapeutic area knowledge in CGAT to anticipate clinical and market progress and propose solutions for gaps in McKesson's portfolio. This individual will be a key clinical expert in understanding the patient and product journey for complex delivery of care for rare diseases and hematology/oncology patients and products as it applies to the strategic and GTM implications for McKesson services and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Guidance

  • This position will dig deeply into pipeline opportunities identifying new business potential from a clinical perspective. This position will be involved in new pitches with account executives. Provide services and solutions recommendations from a patient journey and product journey. Matching up the appropriate existing McKesson assets and new assets to present to biopharma.
  • Research clinical advances in the CGAT space as it impacts the patient journey and product flow in the values chain. Focus on rare disease and orphan disease as well as Hematology / Oncology.
  • Continuously stay abreast of evolving CGAT market trends, utilize data bases and external data sets to query pipeline opportunities stakeholder needs and competitive dynamics to uncover new opportunities and threats; and ensure McKesson's sustained relevance and strength in the CGAT market. Participate in new business pitch opportunities and marketing product development.
  • Provide disease state and product specific expertise and presentations and white papers for the review of internally and externally facing materials and publications.
  • Develop curriculum and manage Clinical Advisory committee with Agency. Directly responsible for thought leader publications from the committee.

Key Opinion Leader Engagement/Medical Affairs

  • Represent McKesson as a credible clinical thought leader in the rapidly evolving CGAT market that will experience significant innovation and experimentation - for both external customers and partners and internal colleagues across the enterprise
  • Serving as a scientific communications and publications ambassador to the cross-functional team and business partners and ensuring production and adoption of publications and communication platforms, that best position McKesson as a thought leader in the space.
  • Representing the CGAT team in your regular interactions with external opinion leaders, professional societies, and vendors
  • Use the latest clinical research trends data trends to assure McKesson is clinically relevant in its offerings to multiple stakeholders. Report on CGAT & SPMR senior leadership post major conferences.
  • Lead CGAT's multi-disciplinary clinical advisory council. This will entail recruiting engaging in virtual and live meetings content development and publication.

Cross-Functional Collaboration/Strategic Partnerships

  • Analize and interpret clinical data, collaborating with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, and researchers to draw meaningful conclusions that contribute to decision making.
  • This role will shape clinical core communications and visual content for the Strategic Marketing team and will also participate in the development and execution of GTM and pitches for the Cell Gene and advanced therapies business unit.
  • This role will be the critical clinical and data partner for business development, marketing, and partnerships team members to anticipate biopharma, healthcare practitioners and payers needs in the space.
  • Support Partnership team on review of CGAT ecosystem partnerships and M&A opportunities as the CGAT Unit builds out its offerings.
  • Synthesize and share CGAT trends and opportunities from attend medical conferences/meetings and share with internal leadership.
  • Develop strong trusted relationships with biopharma companies, payors, healthcare providers and other ecosystem partners.
  • Lead, develop and execute Clinical Advisory Council.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal McKesson partners and teams to align medical strategies with business objectives.

Education/Training:

Bachelor's degree required. Pharm D, PHD, MD preferred

Business Experience:

  • 13+ years of clinical healthcare experience in related field and 8+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, (or equivalent experience). Less years required if has relevant Master's, Doctorate or Pharm. D. qualifications.
  • 4+ years of relevant clinical research experience preferably in rare disease or CGT; experience in the biopharmaceutical industry preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Expertise in the CGAT rare and/or hematologic disease market
  • Clinical expertise and experience working in a health system
  • Knowledge of FDA/EMA requirements, good clinical practices, and pharmaceutical clinical development
  • Biopharma network in Cell Gene and Advanced Therapies
  • Strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with partners, investigators, contractors, consultants, and team members across functions
  • Ability to work independently, yet engage in collaborative decision making, to complete tasks in a timely fashion, and function in a rapid-paced environment
  • Clinical Database and external data familiarity and ability to query and make clinical data trend recommendations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical skills that link to business opportunities
  • Professional stature and gravitas to consult with and influence a sophisticated and seasoned partner group with credibility, confidence, and a collaborative approach

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the drug discovery and development process, clinical trial methodology, worldwide regulatory requirements and the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Ability to synthesize clinical data and report out to senior leaderships findings /opportunities and threats to the BU
  • Prior launch experience and/or experience in rare diseases, especially cell/gene therapy, is highly desirable
  • Experience working with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, physicians, researchers, payers, regulators, and patient groups; proven track record of building strong relationships with research collaborators.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate information/evidence to multiple internal and external audiences (both lay and experienced, including senior leadership
  • Strong clinical written and verbal presentation skills with previous experience with peer reviewed publications
  • Excellent written communication skills, including competent grammatical/technical writing ability.
  • Excellent oral/interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking/presenting ability.
  • Strong independent work ethic and a willingness to be engaged with the project teams.
  • History of collaborative vendor management with an ability to drive budget and timelines effectively
  • Advanced proficiency using statistical computing platforms in the pharmaceutical area.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have the ability to travel up to 30% of the time

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$225,000 - $375,000
