PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director of the Tiernan Field House (TFH), the Operations Coordinator is responsible for providing management in the day-to-day operations of the Field House, supervision and administration of the facilities reservations; supervision of the lifeguard staff and green bike shop and staff; and assisting with health and wellness education, promotion and programming initiatives for the campus community.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Field House Operations

  • Utilize Fusion and EMS software to schedule activities and resources within Tiernan Field House, Alumnae Field, and Pool.
  • Maintain, track, analyze, and offer recommendations on fitness, pool, and green bike shop equipment for facility operations.
  • Work in collaboration with Tiernan Field House staff, student affairs staff, and consortium partners to support department initiatives within the mission of a student-centered facility, programs, and services.
  • Participate in all staff trainings (Fall and Spring), team and community building activities for Tiernan Field House staff.
  • Generate accurate and detailed reports on operational activities, accident/injury reports, incident reports, and supervisory logs.
  • Assist in the supervision of all facilities and programs within the Tiernan Field House, Pool and Soccer/Lacrosse Field including, but not limited to fitness programs, physical education classes, open recreation, and special events as needed, including the supervision of student and part-time staff.
  • In consultation with the Assistant Dean & Director, make decisions related to risk management, emergency situations, and contact emergency personnel as needed.
  • Serve on the Tiernan Field House Advisory Board.

Student Supervision

  • Hire, train, and supervise lifeguards and Green Bike Shop staff.

*Oversee in-service trainings each semester for the lifeguards and bike shop staff.

Health & Wellness

  • Assist in the development, planning, promotion, and implementation of wellness education, outreach, workshops, and engagement opportunities for the Scripps community.
  • Support campus-wide initiatives that develop, promote, and implement campaigns that support health and wellness.

Financial Stewardship

  • Supervise the lifeguard and Green Bike shop budgets, including student, staff, and programmatic projections, expenditures, and reporting.

Student Affairs

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and management of student affairs projects, initiatives, and committees as assigned.
  • Collaborate with various departments in the formation and implementation of these initiatives SAS, Malott Commons, Dining Services, Development Office, Grounds, and Maintenance.
  • Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, exercise science, public health, health education, kinesiology, fitness center management or other related field is required oranycombination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job.

Two years' experience in recreation, physical education or fitness related field is required. One or more years lifeguarding experience is preferred.

Demonstrated experience with fitness center supervision, individual assessment, implementation, and evaluation within the private or public fitness industry is preferred.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATES:

Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the

Colleges' insurance carrier.

Required Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED certification at time of hire. Lifeguard certification through the American Red Cross within 3 months of hire.

Preferred: Lifeguard Instructor certification through the American Red Cross. Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification, Water Safety Instructor, and Personal Trainer certification.

OTHER:

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a regular status, full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position. The regular hours for this position include evenings and weekends.

The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm.Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department and may include some evenings and weekends.

Hourly rate range: $22-$24.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises student employees, lifeguards, bike managers, and bike techs.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. This position requires both indoor and outdoor work.Generally, indoor environments are air-conditioned, outdoor temperatures vary seasonally.Outdoor walking surfaces vary, and may include stairs, ramps, dirt, grass, sand, and other substrates in addition to concrete and asphalt surfaces. This position works in and around water, including the College's pool.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans.
