Who is SSP?

Senior Aerospace SSP specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO-certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP was acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies.

What does the job involve?

Summary: Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, purchase requested items at the best possible price consistent with quality and schedule requirements, within an assigned area of responsibility. Plans sequences of own activities subject to direction from Purchasing Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Analyzes purchase requests and supporting documents applicable to assigned responsibilities.
  • Clarifies specifications through Engineering and requisitioning departments for items to be purchased.
  • Interview suppliers' representatives to obtain information on new ideas, materials, methods, equipment, etc.
  • Buy standard and non-standard items and negotiate for vendors' services in accordance with established purchasing practices and procedures.
  • Purchase these items and services at a minimum cost, consistent with required specifications, workmanship, volume, and delivery schedule.
  • Responsible for advising the supervisor of impending vendor failure to fulfill contractual agreements, or any other problems that may delay production, after exhausting all means within a degree of delegated authority to solve such problems.
  • Keeps Estimating Department informed on price changes for material or supplies.
  • Prepares purchase orders, status reports, and follow-up reports consistent with company or departmental procedures and the direction of the purchasing manager.
  • Consistent with a degree of authority delegated by the superior, make decisions relative to such matters as selection of vendors, acceptance of bids, disposition of rejected items, approval of rework charges, and adjustment of invoice discrepancies.
  • Perform follow-up operations within the company or in vendors, and shops, to accomplish delivery of purchased items per schedule. Sit in a liaison capacity between company personnel and vendor representatives ensuring that vendors are supplied with needed tools, materials, and specifications and to obtain solutions to procurement problems.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures.

Purchasing Lead Additional Responsibilities:

Purchasing Lead provides input and recommendations in improving supply chain strategies, and policies to help the team achieve the best Supply Chain Management practices.

  • Analyses inventory levels and helps the team achieve monthly control goals, and other KPIs.
  • Helps buyers fulfill the plant's daily needs.
  • Ensures effective and efficient execution of procurement services by monitoring and helping maintain the "open order report" up to date.
  • Supports team performance by undertaking activity as required covering other team roles during absence or during peaks in demand.
  • Further integrates business and shared services to improve vendor relationships; helps create LTAs.
  • Support other departments: accounts payable on payment troubleshooting, and quality on RCAs.
  • Prepares instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures. Identifies and recommends improvements and/or customizations as needed to meet required business needs.
  • Leads projects to increase automation, improve efficiency, and/or drive standardization.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requires High School or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in Purchasing.
  • Ability to obtain and understand market prices and trends.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to deal with people at all levels tactfully and in a pleasant manner to represent the company properly under all circumstances.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to solve problems involving many variables in various situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must have a thorough knowledge of purchasing methods and procedures in the aerospace industry, including a knowledge of techniques of specification writing, working knowledge of record keeping, office terminology, and procedures.

Tools:

  • Personal computer, welding machine, and various lab tools/testing rigs.
