Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer with a Secret Clearance!

As a Lead Systems Engineer, you will:

A week in the life of Systems Engineer:

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining critical system infrastructure. Play a pivotal role in ensuring system efficiency, reliability, and scalability to support our customer's goals.
  • Work with the Solutions Architect to develop and implement system architectures that accommodate the current and future needs of our customer. This includes the design of the infrastructure, operating systems, and network systems.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and proactive upgrades to systems to prevent potential issues. Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that the infrastructure supports business processes effectively. Implement monitoring tools and procedures to preemptively identify potential issues.
  • Ensure that all systems comply with industry-standard security protocols. Conduct regular security audits, perform vulnerability testing, and implement security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Maintain Hardened systems based on applicable STIGs/SRGs. Develop, test and maintain computer and network security tools.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, procedures, and service records. Prepare technical reports on system performance, incidents, and resolutions.
  • Work closely with IT staff, software developers, and external vendors to deliver high-quality systems solutions. Mentor junior engineers and technicians and provide technical guidance and support.
  • Develop and maintain configuration management policies for operating system baselines in compliance with STIG requirements.
  • Provides input for Security Test and Evaluation plans. Provides input for RMF artifacts and security controls.
  • Analyzes policies and procedures against Federal and DoD guidelines and provides recommendations for closing gaps.
  • Work with the security processionals (ISSE/ISSA) remediate, fix and justify security findings on systems (Windows, Linux, OpenShift, VMWare, AWS)
  • Support AoAs in infrastructure modernization and automation
  • Provide input for procedural documentation and KB articles and share knowledge through productive discussion with team members
Job Requirements
  • Hold and maintain a DOD Secret clearance.
  • Hold a current 8570/8140 IAT level II certification (Security +, for example)
  • BS degree in related field or 10+ years of experience in the job requirements or a combination of certifications and experience.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience working on complex systems and software programs.
  • Experience supporting Analysis of Alternative (AoA) exercises.
  • Experience working within a disciplined, process based SDLC.
  • Experience managing and mitigating system security risks.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise feedback to ISSE on system findings and mitigation strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with building and deploying systems in AWS IL5 environemtns and NPRNet.
  • Experience with RMF ATO process.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and lead projects with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to be on-call for emergencies and perform maintenance outside of standard working hours, if necessary.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Docker and containerization mythologies
  • Experience deploying and configuring Atlassian products such as Jira Software, Confluence, Service Manager, and Jira plug-ins on the cloud.
  • Experience supporting Military Health organizations, such as DHA
  • AWS Certified solutions Architect

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - 120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
