CDS operates four dining units (Browne Dining Hall, Red Door Marketplace, Broad Cafe, and Avery Kitchen) for a campus community of 2000. We also serve over 850 students, 7 days a week, through our Board Program and maintain a burgeoning Catering Department.

Under the direction of the unit manager, this position requires minimal supervision with speed and proficiency in all areas of cafe food and beverage services. This position requires experience working in a high-volume cafe or food facility. Quickly prepares and assembles beverages according to recipe using commercial espresso equipment. Must have some food knowledge and the willingness to learn. Must be versatile, flexible, with the successful ability to work at any location, preparing beverages, serving food, bussing tables, and restocking station and store items as needed.

This position should expect location shifts according to business needs and will be required to learn how to assemble and serve food items according to assembly instructions. Is responsible for set-up and maintenance of an organized, clean, and sanitized food and beverage station at all times. Performs work in accordance with Institute and regulatory agencies safety standards and practice and performs all job duties as assigned. A positive, can-do attitude and team work ethic are a must. The candidate must also be flexible, resourceful, and be able to take ownership & initiative in any given task.

This is an Essential Reporting position. An employee designated as essential reporting has essential job skills that are needed for response and recovery, and is expected to report to campus as soon as possible.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve espresso and other drinks.
  • Greet customers, ring up orders, and serve pastries and food.
  • Bus plates, cups, glasses, silverware, serving items, etc.
  • Cleans and restocks unit at end of service.
  • Stock condiment station, keeping it clean and organized at all times; restock as needed.
  • Clean seating/service/work areas and equipment, keeping it organized at all times.
  • Maintain maximum standards of sanitation and safety.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member to assist other team members as needed.
  • Provide great customer service daily.
  • Cultivates a positive and productive workplace through communication, teamwork and ownership.
  • Greet and serve all guests in a professional, genuine, and friendly manner.
  • May be required to work some non-shift days, extended shifts, and over-time.
  • May temporarily work a different shift due to unforeseen events or seasonal high volume event needs.
  • Must be able to confront a challenge or adverse situation with calm, resolve, and an open, can-do attitude and positive mindset.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Customer service oriented.
  • Experience in the food service industry.
  • Experience as a barista.
  • Ability to communicate fluently and provide direction and guidance to other staff members.
  • Ability to take direction, remember duties, and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to work congenially and as a team with other staff members, student staff and customers.
  • Ability to carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • The selected candidates must pass a pre-employment background investigation and post-offer physical examination to be hired for this position.
  • Selected candidate must maintain attendance and arrive on time for all shifts.
  • Must possess a food handler's certificate or ability to obtain one by the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years working in a fast-paced, team environment.

Hiring Range

$17.75 - $19.75 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
