Position description

The School of Education at the University of California, Irvine is excited to announce a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position focusing on program evaluation and policy analysis at community colleges. The Postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team and college partners to utilize exceptionally rich data (e.g., student surveys, clickstream data, and college administrative data) from two cutting-edge projects that aim to better understand how policies and programs influence student outcomes at community colleges. The first one is a five-year NSF funded project that aims to improve the transition of community college students into four-year university programs through increased access to cross-enrollment programs. The second one is a four-year NSF funded project that aims to evaluate a state-level effort in increasing the success rates of community college students in gateway mathematics courses and contributing to the knowledge base on effective practices which support that success.
Salary and rank within the Postdoctoral Scholar series commensurate with experience. The appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. The position will start in August, 2024.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty PI and co-PIs on the project; assisting with project management, including communication with the college partner; analyzing longitudinal college administrative data matched with earnings records; publishing and presenting findings; writing funding proposals to seek additional external support; consulting with and mentoring teams of graduate and undergraduate students; managing communication, training sessions, and dissemination of research results; and coordinating the personnel and facilities within the project team.

Requirements:
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Education, Economics, or a related field; broad expertise in research and evaluation of educational interventions; particular expertise on topics related to community college transfer, college curricula, and student success; broad knowledge of quantitative research design, including experiments and power analysis; experience preparing complex longitudinal datasets for analysis, including cleaning, coding, merging, and managing data; experiences in writing grants; advanced expertise in academic writing and editing for peer-reviewed scholarly articles; successful experience in writing human subjects protocols; demonstrated ability to work well with others, including both receiving direction and providing direction; and expertise in leading research initiatives and teams.
